COLOR OCCURRENCE
Interactive public art project, 2010.
Commissioned for the 14 meter by 9.5 meter LED Facade of MediaLab Prado, Madrid.
In collaboration with Zevan Rosser.
An interactive public art project linking color as interpreted in spoken language with Twitter.
The project selects a color from our color library, made of online contributions of shades named subjectively by the contributors. When a color is selected, it appears and then a live Twitter search is performed for tweets containing this color name. Finally, complete tweets are displayed, generating a cyber cross based on spoken word color sensibilities.
The giant LED facade for which Color Occurrence was commissioned, is placed in a rather intimate plaza. For us, that provoked a compelling oxymoron of public and private, that we aim to mirror in the project.
